Privacy Policy — Modest Gains

The short version

Modest Gains keeps everything on your device. We don't have accounts, servers, or analytics. We never see your workouts, your food diary, or anything else you record. We can't — the app has no way to send them to us.

Who we are

Modest Gains (the "App") is made by Ares Softworks LLC, a Michigan limited liability company ("we," "us"). This policy covers the App on iOS and Android. There is no web version.

What we collect: nothing

The App does not collect, transmit, sell, share, or store any personal information off your device. Specifically:

• No account or registration. The App has no sign-up, login, email capture, or user identifier of any kind.
• No servers. We operate no backend. Everything you record — workouts, exercises, food entries, water, saved meals, settings — is stored only in the App's local storage on your device.
• No network activity. The App's nutrition database, exercise illustrations, and fonts are bundled inside the App. The App makes no network requests during use. You buy the App once in the App Store, before it ever runs; there is no in-app purchase, no subscription, and no purchase check inside the App.
• No tracking. No analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or social SDKs are included. No cookies or device identifiers are read or created for tracking.

Where your data lives

Your notebook is stored in the App's private on-device storage. On iOS and Android, the App also maintains a local backup file in the App's Documents area on your device so your notebook can survive reinstalls. The App never sends that file anywhere on its own.

Exporting, when you choose to. The App can export your notebook as a file and hand it to your device's own share sheet, so you can save it to Files, email it to yourself, or move it to another device. Where it goes is entirely your choice, made in your operating system's share sheet rather than in the App — and once it leaves, it is governed by whatever service you sent it to, not by this policy. We never receive it. This export is the only way notebook data leaves your device, and it never happens without you asking for it.

Your own device backups. If you use your platform's device backup (e.g., iCloud Backup or Google device backup), the App's data may be included in that backup like any other app's data. Those backups belong to you, are governed by Apple's or Google's terms and privacy practices, and are not accessible to us.

Links out of the App

The App links to three pages on our website: the Terms, this Privacy Policy, and Attributions. Opening one leaves the App and hands the address to your device's own browser.

Nothing from your notebook travels with you. The App does not send your data to our website. These links are the only thing in the App that opens a web address, and that only happens when you tap one.

This policy covers the App. It does not describe our website, or any other site your browser takes you to.

Data deletion

You are in complete control. Deleting your entries in the App deletes them from your device. Deleting the App (and its Documents backup file, where your platform shows it — e.g., the Files app on iOS) removes all App data. There is nothing for us to delete on any server, because nothing is ever sent to one.

Age

The App is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to use it, as set out in the Terms of Use, and the App is not directed to anyone under 18. Because the App collects no personal information from anyone, there is none collected from people under 18 either.

Your privacy rights (GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws)

Privacy laws in some regions grant rights to access, correct, delete, or port personal data that a company holds about you. We hold none. Your data exists only on your device, where you can view, edit, export, and delete it directly. If you contact us, we will receive whatever you choose to include in your message and will use it only to respond.

The app stores

You download the App through Apple's App Store or Google Play. Apple and Google may collect information in connection with your download and use of their stores (such as purchase records or aggregate install statistics) under their own privacy policies. We receive at most aggregated, non-identifying statistics from the stores.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change our practices — for example, if a future version of the App adds an optional online feature — we will update this policy, bump its version, and the App will present the change before any new practice takes effect.
